RELEASE NOTES

GoldR 5.4

GoldR 5.4 makes the recovery trade of the 01:00 – 03:00 session more selective: it now opens only when the 02:00 – 03:00 session broke out in the same direction. In our MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester runs from January 2021 to September 2026 the recommended version ended about a third higher than 5.3, with about the same largest drop and a milder worst month. An optional GoldR 5.4.1 aims for more profit with more risk; the results of both are below, so you can choose.

Released 26 September 2026 · replaces GoldR 5.3

New in 5.4

  • A more selective recovery trade at 03:00. The 01:00 – 03:00 and 02:00 – 03:00 sessions break out at the same moment. When both traded the same direction and were stopped out, the 01:00 – 03:00 recovery trade made money in every year from 2021 to 2026 in our research tests; when that session traded alone, its recovery trade lost money over the same years. GoldR 5.4 now places it only when the 02:00 – 03:00 session traded the same direction that day.
  • More profit, about the same drop. From €5,000, 5.4 ended at €366,364 against €278,019 for 5.3, with a largest drop of 32.7% against 31.6%, and its worst month was −15.6% against −20.0%. See 5.3 and 5.4 compared for all six tests, including those where 5.4.1 ended lower.
  • Nothing to change on your side. The inputs are the same as in 5.3; leave them as they are.

Tested 2021 – 2026

Both versions run the same GoldR 5.4 engine with the Standard risk setting. They were tested in the MT5 Strategy Tester on real tick data, starting with €5,000. These are simulated results, not a live account.

Most of the growth came in 2024 – 2026, when gold rose strongly, and because the lot grows with the balance. In 2021 both versions lost about a fifth of the account; 5.4 was back above its start in 2023, 5.4.1 in 2023. A new customer can start in a year like that, so plan for it: the balance can stay below its start for a long time. Above roughly €100,000 the tests open positions of tens of lots; in a real account, slippage and broker limits would make those later results smaller.

Test settings: MT5 Strategy Tester, XAUUSD M5, every tick based on real ticks, IC Markets, €5,000 deposit, leverage 1:500, Risk Standard, 4 January 2021 – 23 September 2026. Largest drop is measured on the balance from its highest point so far.

* Both sides of this row were run on our second test terminal, which charges slightly higher trading costs than the first; each comparison is always made within one terminal.

5.4 ended higher than 5.3 in all three tests with about the same largest drop. 5.4.1 ended about where 5.3.1 did: a little higher from €5,000, a little lower from €1,500, and lower but with a smaller drop on Aggressive.

5.4 or 5.4.1: you choose

GoldR 5.4 is the version we recommend. GoldR 5.4.1 is an optional alternative for customers who accept deeper drops in exchange for a higher potential result. Both use the same license key; switching is only replacing the file on the chart.

GoldR 5.4 · recommended
  • Smaller lot in the first week of each month (US jobs report) and in the third week (usual Fed meeting week).
  • The long 03:00 – 11:00 session is not traded.
  • Steadier: its largest drop in 2024 was 18.6%.
GoldR 5.4.1 · more profit, more risk
  • Full lot every day, including the jobs report and Fed weeks.
  • Also trades the 03:00 – 11:00 session.
  • Positions up to about three times larger at the same balance, and a 33.0% drop even in a good year (2024).

If you are unsure, choose 5.4. Choose 5.4.1 only with money you can leave untouched through a drop of 40% or more.

Standard or Aggressive

The Risk input sets how large the lot is compared with your balance. We tested both settings from €1,500, the smallest balance we recommend, over 2021 – 2026:

Standard and Aggressive risk from €1,500, 2021 – 2026
Version and riskLot at €1,500Lowest balanceLargest drop2021
5.4 · Standard0.02€1,05434.1%−11.3%
5.4 · Aggressive0.04€93443.4%−19.3%
5.4.1 · Standard0.02€1,07331.9%−12.4%
5.4.1 · Aggressive0.04€93952.4%−21.3%

Aggressive trades twice the lot, so both gains and drops are larger, and in good years the lot grows much faster. On small accounts the drops can be deeper, because the smallest lot the broker allows (0.01) is relatively large there. With 5.4.1 on Aggressive the largest drop also depends a lot on the exact trading costs: the same test gave 52.4% on one test terminal and 43.0% on the other. We do not offer more than Aggressive: with 0.08 lot per €1,500 the same test lost the whole account in 2023.

What changed in 5.3

  • Recovery trades on more sessions. The 01:00 – 03:00 session got a recovery trade of up to 3 times the first trade (before: none), and the 13:00 – 14:30 and 17:00 – 17:30 sessions larger ones (5 times, were 3.5 and 4). For each of these sessions the recovery trade made money in every year from 2021 to 2026 in our research tests.
  • The safety limits stay. All open recovery trades together are limited to 7 times the base lot, and a recovery trade that would push the margin level below 300% is made smaller or skipped.

What changed in 5.2

  • More careful recovery trades. When a first trade is still open the day after it opened, its recovery trade is placed only if it goes with the daily gold trend (yesterday's close against the average of the last 10 daily closes). Same-day recovery trades are unchanged. In the 5.1 → 5.2 tests the largest drop fell by 6 to 15 percentage points in every version, risk setting and account size.
  • Two inputs, best left as they are. RecoverySameDayOnly (true) switches this rule on; RecoveryNextDayTrendMA (10) is the number of days in the trend average, 0 means no next-day recovery trades at all.

What changed in 5.1

  • A new afternoon session. GoldR also trades the breakout of the 16:00 – 18:00 broker-time range, around the London close, without a recovery trade. In our research tests it was positive on its own in every year from 2021 to 2026, and it stayed positive with other stop and target sizes, higher spreads and later entry times. Added to 5.0 it raised the 2021 – 2026 result by about a third, with the same largest drop.
  • You choose the risk in the EA. The Risk input has three settings: Standard (0.02 lot for every €1,500 of balance, recommended), Aggressive (0.04 lot for every €1,500) and Custom (your own lot per 1,000 of balance). See Standard or Aggressive for what each setting did in our tests.

What changed in 5.0

  • The lot size follows your balance. Instead of a fixed lot, GoldR sizes each trade from your account balance. After losses the lot gets smaller by itself; as the account grows it gets larger. In the 2021 test a fixed lot lost almost the whole account, the balance-based lot did not.
  • A drawdown brake. While GoldR's own closed trades are 20% below their best level, new trades open with half the lot until the account recovers. It is calculated from GoldR's trades only, so your deposits and withdrawals never switch it on, and it keeps working after a restart.
  • No trades in very quiet markets. When a session's price range is narrower than 0.10% of the gold price, GoldR skips it for the day. Breakouts from such narrow ranges failed in every year we tested.
  • Safer recovery trades. A recovery trade is never larger than 5 times the first trade (it was up to 7 times). The evening session no longer opens a recovery trade. A recovery that would push your margin level below 300% is made smaller or skipped.
  • One session retired. The long morning session (03:00 – 11:00 broker time) lost money in 2021 – 2023 and is not traded in the recommended version.
  • Protection against accidental edits. If a stop loss, take profit or pending order is changed by hand, GoldR puts the planned values back. Closing a trade yourself ends that cycle cleanly, without a leftover recovery order.
  • Everything else stays the same: your license key, the account it is bound to, the customer portal and account monitoring.

How to update

  • Sign in to the customer portal. Download on your license card gives GoldR 5.4; the optional 5.4.1 has its own button below it.
  • In MetaTrader 5, remove the old GoldR from the chart, then install and attach GoldR 5.4 as in step 5 of the setup guide.
  • Paste the same license key into License key and leave Risk on Standard, or choose Aggressive (see above and the lot size guide). Leave the two recovery inputs as they are.
  • Update at the weekend, when GoldR has no open trades, so every trade is opened and managed by the same version.

Risk

Trading can lose money

These are simulated results from the MT5 Strategy Tester, not a live account. A backtest replays past prices and cannot reproduce real spreads, slippage, requotes or outages exactly. Results depend on the broker, the risk setting and the start date, and yours will differ. Past and simulated performance do not guarantee future results. Trading leveraged products such as XAUUSD CFDs can lose money, including more than you expect.
